Rotary Club of Como Classic Car Show 2019

The Rotary Club of Como has hosted the Classic Car Show at Wesley College for eight years. It is a very pleasant and easy going car show that always draws a good crowd. The nearby cafes and shops of Angelo Street also provide a nice distraction when you've had enough of the cars. I attended my first show seven years ago and have attended every year since.

This year I attended with a new club, which debuted at the Rotary Club Car Show - the KBG. The Car Bike Group is a club for those with an interest in unusual two, three and four wheeled vehicles, that encourages members to use, restore and enjoy their classics, and has a social focus. Details can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/KBG-Kar-Bike-Group-Inc-100248214704917/

Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, DKW F94 and Alfa Romeo

A photo that most represents what the KBG is about - a 1974 Tatra 603 from Czechoslovakia shares space with an Italian Lambretta scooter and German Durkopp Diana.

1972 Citroen DS

I remain enamored with this 1965 Saab 96 Monte Carlo GT. It's such a terrific machine

"What lubrication ratio are you using?" It's great to be sharing the road with another two-stroker.

1966 Porsche 356. Check out Marc's website and YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWo3kLE5S6cJsnKVJdxDVSg/

Fiat Integrale

Fiat 131R

For some, owning a classic machine is an immersive experience. 1944 Kubelwagen.

Porsche 911T and Saab 96

The Tatra 603's amazing V8 engine

Tatra and scooters

On two cars on the left are GM Holden's first car - the 48/215 (catchy name), more commonly known as the FX. The car's successor, the legendary FJ Holden, is on the right. The cars were scarcely different in their mechanicals, but the FJ had more elaborate styling.

Looking over the KBG display. We were given a prime spot near the entry gate.

Fargo truck and a nice display of memorabilia

1953 Riley RME

1951 Riley RMA

The Ford Zephyr and Zodiac club was out in force. https://zzocwa.webs.com/

Two rarities in Australia - 1966 Ford Zodiac Mark 4. This model was not exported to Australia due to the high import duties that were applied. The car on the left was imported via New Zealand, but the car on the right is apparently the only one directly imported to Australia for trials. It is for sale.

My father once owned a Mark I Zephyr.

1973 Rambler Hornet

Chevrolet Bel-Air

MGAs

A solid turnout from the Vauxhall Club. My father's first car was a Vauxhall 14/6 like the car above.

1966 Bedford Dormobile. This mini-camper van was based on a Vauxhall Victor.

Despite the vehicle's small size, it does pack a lot in. The owners have done a great job with the period fittings.

Morgan Club and a Renault Alpine

My favorite car of the day was this 1949 Morgan 4 Coupe. Beyond the 49 is a modern Morgan Aero.

Another star of the show is this stunning Jaguar XKS 120 with aluminum bodywork.

Motor Museum of WA display. http://www.motormuseumwa.com.au/

Renault 750

The SIVA / Renault Register of Australia display of 3 Renault 750s.

Interestingly, each of the cars have very different front trim. This car is from 1956.

This is a very early Renault 750, built in France and exported to Australia in the early pre-war period. The trim is very simple.

This later Renault 4CT has different trim again to the 1956.

Renault Alpine A110

1950s Mercedes-Benz 170 on the right and a Mercedes-Benz Adenauer limousine. The Adenauer has just completed a restoration and this was its first outing.

Mercedes-Benz Adenauer

This 1951 Mercedes-Benz 170 started life with same body as the 170 above, but this was replaced with a pre-war body style during restoration.

Robert Wagner's Chevrolet Corvette

Holden 48/215

Austin 7 'Gumdrop.' I remember the Gumdrop books from my childhood. Maybe that's where I caught the bug? http://www.gumdrop.org.uk/

The always popular Delorean

And then someone gave me a microphone....

A very handsome car

Telsas

The Tesla's drew a lot of attention

It may be a replica of a Mercedes-Benz 300SL, but it's still a stunning vehicle

My DKW

Great video of some of the highlights of the show from Marc and Cars.
