CZ and Jawa were Czechoslovakia's principle motorcycle manufacturers. Initially they both built very similar two-stroke motorcycles, but by the mid 1950s had differentiated into two separate markets. Jawa built larger capacity civil motorcycles while CZ specialized in lightweights and moto-cross. Both brands enjoyed export success.
