VMCCWA Swap Meet 2016

It's been a few years since I've been able to attend the Vintage Motorcycle Club of WA's annual swapmeet at the Cannington exhibition centre because of classic car commitments. This year, although I attended the start of the German Car Day I did not go on the run, so I had time to pop over to Cannington.

Veteran BSA

Ariel and Matchless

BSA scrambler row

The magnificent Scott Flying Squirrel. These magnificent British motorcycles were powered by a two cylinder, water cooled two-stoke engine. No other motorcycle sounds like them.

Ariel

Indian and BSA in military spec

Although I arrived around 10.45am many of the bikes in the exhibition had moved on and there were fewer sellers than previous years.

This veteran Yale motorcycle drew a lot of attention running outside the exhibition hall.

A bargain for the odd-scoot fan - four dismantled Puch scooters. If I didn't have so many other projects on the go....

And speaking of Scotts - two Scott restoration projects at $5000 and $8000 respectively.

The Scott engine is reminiscent of the DKW two cylinder engine. It is now believed that DKW's 3 cylinder two-stroke was developed from the Scott 3 cylinder engine.

VMCCWA Swap Meet 2014

There was another excellent turn out at the VMCCWA swap meet on Sunday 30th June 2014.

A group from the SIVA club rode down to the show. We had an NSU Super Max, Royal Enfield 500 Bullet and two Ariel Leaders

Although not part of the official display, our bikes did draw a crowd.

Ariel Leader's are pretty rare here, so having two together was pretty special. My Leader is an early 58 without any extras; Richard's is a 63 model with all the fruit, including panniers, original indicators, and Smith's clock.

The swap meet had a wide variety of bits and pieces on sale.

The vintage bike display.

1938 DKW RT200

An immaculate 1931 Ariel Four Square. Probably the best in show.

This year there was an interesting display of American flat tankers. In the foreground is a Yale.

Two Popes

A veteran Pope with all its patina

A veteran BSA and an unusual veteran Emblem

The Emblem was another early veteran I've never heard of before.

Richard and I enjoyed a great ride on the Ariels.  They both ran really well - of course!!

Brockwell Run, Fremantle to the Motor Museum - Sunday 9 November 2014

This year's event will be held on 9 November and will start from Fremantle Park (a new location). The South Beach location formerly used presented traffic congestion problems and the city of Fremantle has kindly allocated Fremantle Park for this year's run which has better access and egress. Fremantle Park is situated in Ellen Street, which runs parallel with High Street.

VMCCWA - 200cc motorcycle display

Here's a selection of photos from the Vintage Motorcycle Club of WA "up to 200cc machine show and tell" day. There was an interesting selection of small displacement bikes on display, basically falling into two categories - inter-war year British bikes and 60's Japanese bikes. Keith W organised the show and his family put on a veritable feast for those who attended. Great work Keith!

Although it's a scooter I opted to take the Troll along. It is after all powered by a 143cc MZ motorcycle engine. This was also the first time I'd taken the Troll to a VMCCWA event so it gave the guys an opportunity to see it in the flesh.

This was one of the longest trips I've ever taken the Troll on, but the Troll generally behaved herself.

A Vespa leads a row of Japanese and European lightweights.

A Suzuki 100, French Motobecane 125cc and a 75cc Honda Benly.

A Triumph Tiger Cub, winner of the 'People's Choice' and a Spanish Montesa (owned by Honda).

3 magnificent British lightweights of the Inter-war years,. This is an unrestored 1937 Wolf 175cc. Quite a rare marque that generally used JAP and Villiers proprietory engines. http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/Museum/Transport/Motorcycles/Wearwell.htm

A 1937 Carlton 122cc. This one used a Villiers engine. http://www.carltoncycles.me.uk/history/motorcycles.htm

1948 Ambassador Series II 198cc. Okay, so 1948 is not quite 'Inter-war' but the design is definitely 1937 - look at the girder forks! Ambassador built a wide range of motorcycles and scooters, powered by a range of proprietory engines. http://cybermotorcycle.com/euro/brands/ambassador_history.htm

We had a good look through Keith's shed. Some interesting projects on the go.

Moto Guzzi Condor

Honda something.... almost finished

Beautiful Ariel NH

1940 BSA 500cc

Honda 50cc moped

A little Honda postie bike and a Honda Benly in the back.
