Vintage Motorcycle Club WA Swap Meet - 2011


Here's a selection of photos of the Vintage Motorcycle Club of WA's Swap meet on Sunday 27 March 2011. It was a really successful day with a great turnout. There was an excellent display of over sixty bikes including a large contingent of veteran machines.

There was a good turnout of visitors. It's great to see so much public interest.
It isn't always about the big bikes. This is a little French lightweight - 125cc Motobecane.

An Australian rarity - 1919 Carbine. Powered by a MAG engine with belt drive.
A couple more views of the Carbine. It's amazing to think of the odds of survival for such a machine, given the tiny numbers manufactured and the life they must have led.

Another rare veteran - 1911 554 cc OK-Bradshaw.

At 11pm the Bradshaw was wheeled out into the yard and started up in front a crowd of interested onlookers. Surprisingly she started straight up on the first pull of the starter rope. Here below is a video of a hundred year old motorcycle in action.
These old veterans are called bone shakers for a reason. Note the lever action accelerator and retard. Riding one of these is a complicated business but it was better than walking.

WA Vintage Motorcycle Club Inspection Day 2011


Sunday 13th February 2011 was inspection day for all VMCCWA motorcycles on 404 concessional licenses. It was a good opportunity to see a lot of bikes that are usually hidden away out and about and to chat about motorcycles.

Some trailered their bikes, others rode.

A beautifully restored 1951 Ariel NH.

The Leader ran really well all the way, although typically it stalled and flooded when I had to restart it. It can be very tempermental to restart when hot. I usually start it with the fuel OFF in order to avoid it flooding.

"I haven't seen one of those since...."

The inspections are underway. The Leader passed although they recommended the front brake be looked at. Ariel front brakes are notoriously weak.

Harley-Davidson Peashooter racer. You gotta love the brick as a sidestand!  The peashooter had apparently enjoyed a successful racing career in the 30s and 40s. It's been preserved with its original patina.

A rare and unusual 4 cylinder Nimbus. This drew an admiring crowd.

A wonderfully restored BSA New Imperial. My grandfather used to own one of these. I think it was one of the best motorcycles there.
